The Sixty-sixth Legislative Day - March 16, 2007

We are past the half-way point of the First Regular Session of the Sixty-Sixth General Assembly. In the House we are working on bills that started in the Senate, and have a few new House bills as well. In the House we have passed legislation to energize our economy with renewable energy enhancements, “wind for Schools” and bringing biofuels to market. We have passed bills to conserve our precious Colorado resources by safeguarding our forest health, preserving water quality, and increasing the rainy day fund. We are working on bill to strengthen our schools and curb the costs of health care.

The 50th Legislative Day -- News Flash! - March 1, 2007

The bill that would ban smoking in casinos just passed in the House on a vote of 36-29.

This bill, HB 1269, has received quite a bit of media attention since I first introduced it in the House earlier this session. As chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, I feel strongly about this issue primarily as a health concern – most importantly, the health of casino workers, who must be subjected to an unhealthful work environment.

Happy New Year!

As the New Year approaches (as well as the snow storm!), I have been working hard on legislative bills and health care issues for the 2007 Session. It is going to be a great, busy and productive session!

I also wanted to give you a few updates and reminders:

  1. Denver voters have until TOMORROW December 29, 2006 to change their address for purposes of voting in the Janaury 29, 2007 Special Election. This will be a mail ballot election so your correct address is vital to receiving a ballot! (The Special Election was approved Tuesday evening by Denver City Council for voters to consider replacing the Denver Election Commission with an elected clerk.)

Here's to Our Success!

Dear HD 3 Democrats,

There have been many "thank-yous" and I wanted to add my own to each of you for your help in electing strong leadership for Colorado. It is your hard work and commitment that made it all possible.

There are so many of you to thank for phone banking, delicious meals while doing it, our VAN consultants and last but not least those of you who joined together with me to deliver food and water to our voters who stood in line for hours to cast their ballots.
