On Tuesday, the acute and immediate need for the passage of sound Carbon Monoxide legislation in Colorado was most evident. The hearing was held in the Old Supreme Court Chambers, to accommodate members of the public, members of the General Assembly, as well as the Members of the Business Affairs Committee. We listened to grieving family members testify. They highlighted the accomplishments of recent victims, all lives cut short too young, including the Lofgren family and DU student Lauren Johnson. The testimony highlighted the fact that these deaths were unnecessary and untimely.

For these reasons, I am a co-sponsor of HB09-1091,The Lofgren Family Carbon Monoxide bill. I will work with Representative John Soper, the sponsor of the Bill, to ensure its passage. Finally, I urge every constituent who does not already have a carbon dioxide detector installed in their home to immediately purchase and install one. They can be obtained for under $5 at most hardware stores.
